Victoria's Chief Justice, John H. Phillips, speaking at a historic open day at the Supreme Court, fielded questions from the public on the court's role, its independence, capital punishment and the wig-wearing ways of the judiciary.
He said that in general he opposed capital punishment but shed no tears when Timothy McVeigh was executed.
