with the adoption of a joint resolution from six political groups on Tibet and the case of Tenzin Delek Rinpoche, the European Parliament reiterated its request to abolish capital punishment and to establish an immediate moratorium on the death penalty in China.
It called on Chinese authorities to immediately convert the death sentence against the Buddhist Lama, Tenzin Delek Rinpoche, who may be put to death anytime after 2 December 2004, the date when his reprieve was due to expire. The Parliament welcomed the release of Ngawang Sangrol and Jigme Sangpo, the oldest prisoners held in detention for their opinions in Tibet, and called on Chinese authorities to continue releasing prisoners and to strengthen dialogue in progress with representatives of the Dalaï Lama in order to reach a mutually acceptable solution on the question of Tibet.
