With the increase of serious crimes against women and armed robberies, Papua New Guinea Justice Minister Mark Maipakai said the Government of was reviewing the death penalty provisions in the country's Criminal Code. He said not all criminal cases would attract the death sentences as the most severe penalty should be reserved for the most serious type of case. The mode of execution passed by Parliament in 1999 was hanging by the neck until death. But it was reported that no one in Papua New Guinea had the skill and experience to carry out such a punishment.
