Women In Nigeria condemned the death sentence for adultery given to Safiya Hussaini Tungar-Tudu, 30, by an Islamic court while her alleged lover, Yakubu Abubakar, 53, got off scot free.
"This is sad and painful and continues to expose the injustice in the system," said Toro Oladapo, a spokeswoman for Women In Nigeria (WIN). "To sentence her to death in the first place is condemnable.
"If they want to be fair, both the man and the woman ought to have been sentenced, it is a bad precedent and will allow men to get away with such offences," she added.
