A 12-year-old boy was arrested for the rape of a girl aged five, in Baden, 30 kilometres south of Vienna. Lieutenant Colonel Franz Polzer of the Baden anti-crime squad said the suspected boy was Albanian. After first denying the rape, the boy confessed. Polzer said he was immediately committed to a home. The Albanian had already been under supervision by youth authorities because of psychological problems. The rape caused outrage and many people voiced their anger on the Austrian Radio, TV and website calling for the death penalty or castration for sexual offenders.
