A 22-year-old German woman escaped the gallows after a Singapore court reduced the drug trafficking charge against her.
Julia Suzanne Bohl was charged on March 15 with possessing what was believed to be 687 grams of cannabis for the purpose of trafficking.
The death penalty is mandatory in Singapore for trafficking in 500 grams or more of cannabis.But the public prosecutor told the court the trafficking charge against Bohl was being reduced from a capital one after a chemist's report on the block of vegetable matter alleged to have been in her possession was found to contain only 281 grams of cannabis.
Three Singaporeans charged along with Bohl, including the alleged leader of the drug ring, also had their charges reduced and escaped the death penalty.
