a 33-year-old man was executed in northern Mymensingh central jail one minute past Saturday midnight. Jail sources said Mofizuddin Khan was hanged to death in presence of the Civil Surgeon, magistrate and jail superintendent. Earlier, the Bangladesh President had rejected his mercy petition. Hailing from Gopalpur village of Trishal sub-district, Mofiz was sentenced to death in November 1999 for murder of his stepmother Momtaz Begum and stepsister Khaleda.
