the High Court of Bangladesh, Dhaka, commuted the death penalties of Monir Hossain Liton and Abu Sayed, both in their early 20’s, into life imprisonment and acquitted teenagers Faisal Sharif Raju and Imran Hossain Sabuj who had previously been sentenced to death in absentia.
They had been convicted by a lower court of abducting and murdering Khandker Shihab Ahmed, 13. Shihab was allegedly picked up from the school gate of Dhaka’s Motijheel Model High School on February 7, 2002. His body was cut into pieces and hidden in different places. No motive for the crime was given.
