A court in Rajshahi, Bangladesh, convicted Nurunnabi, 30, and sentenced him to death for killing his wife for dowry in 2003

A court in Rajshahi, Bangladesh, convicted Nurunnabi, 30, and sentenced him to death for killing his wife for dowry in 2003.
The convict was also fined Tk one lakh to be paid to the victim's parents.
According to the prosecution, Nurunnabi married Farhana Yesmin alias Jolly in 2000 and took a motorcycle and gold ornaments from her parents as dowry. Nurunnabi allegedly tortured Jolly to bring more dowry money from her parents.
On June 6, 2003, Nurunnabi, following his wife's refusal to bring the demanded money, poured kerosene on her body and set her alight. She died on the spot.
