A Beijing court sentenced taxi driver Li Pingping to death for killing seven people, three of which he dismembered, and sentenced his wife to 15 years in prison for serving as his accomplice and harbouring loot. Li, 44, was accused by the Beijing Municipal No 1 Intermediate People's Court of having lured four young women to his home before killing them from November 2002 to April 2003. Li said all his crimes were motivated by his discontent against society. He was captured by Beijing police in June 2003 and police found the dismembered bodies of the victims in a garbage dump near Li's home with the clues he provided. Li was also accused of killing his ex-employer Song Shutian as well as Song's wife and daughter after he was sacked from Song's food company in May 1995.
