a court in Chuadanga, Bangladesh, sentenced three 'extremists' to death in a sensational 1996 murder. The condemned convicts were identified as Sohag, Kausar and Alam. All are members of Purba Banglar Communist Party. Sohag was tried in absentia while Kauser and Alam were present in the dock. The convicts allegedly picked up four members of the Biplobi Communist Party from the house of Abdul Aziz at Jodupur village in Sadar upazila on June 27, 1996, and chopped them to death on a nearby road. The victims were identified as Hamidul, Anwar, Shafi and Mile after examining records and witnesses, Court -1 Additional Sessions Judge Motahar Hossain pronounced the judgment, and acquitted seven others in the case.
