Judge of the Women and Child Repression Prevention Tribunal Badsha Alamgir delivered the verdict in a crowded courtroom. The convict was identified as Patanu Chandra Roy, son of Shobha Chandra Roy of Teghra Mohadevpur village under Kotwali police station in the district. The prosecution alleged Patanu Roy was strangled his wife Ratna Bala after torturing her for Taka 20,000 as dowry on September 21 in 2000. Patanu spread the news that his wife committed suicide by hanging. The autopsy report said that Ratna Bala was tortured and later strangled.
