A court in Dhaka, Bangladesh, convicted two youths and sentenced them to death after convicting them of killing a four-and-a-half-year-old boy. The condemned convicts were Shahidul Islam Akand, 28, and Abdul Barek Khan, who was absconding. Both were residents of the Pallabi area in Dhaka, and distant relations of the victim. According to the prosecution, the accused kidnapped Sirajul Islam on May 2, 1995 from his residence in Pallabi and demanded Tk 200,000 as ransom from the child's father Nazrul Islam. The body of the victim was recovered on May 4, 1995 at the city's Botanical Garden.
