A court in Habiganj, Bangladesh, sentenced Moram Ali to death in absentia and five others to life imprisonment for killing a man in 1997

A court in Habiganj, Bangladesh, sentenced Moram Ali to death in absentia and five others to life imprisonment for killing a man in 1997. The court also fined the five, Sanjab Ali, Rojab Ali, Amir Hossain, Samaruddin and Alim Uddin, Tk 2000 each, in default of payment they were to three months more rigorous imprisonment. According to the prosecution, the convicts mercilessly beat Kanor Uddin to death with sticks and chains as he moved goats belonging to the convicts to a nearby pen after they damaged his paddy crops on August 23, 1997.
