a court in Narayanganj, Bangladesh, sentenced six men to death and eight others to life imprisonment for the murder of a local Bangladesh Nationalist Party leader. Anwar Hossain alias Anar, Muhammad Ali, Sohel and Delwar Hossain alias Delu standing in the dock were handed down the death penalty while Mir Mamun alias Barisaillya Mamun and Kamal alias Gunda Kamal were sentenced in absentia. According to the prosecution, the accused shot and wounded Habibur Rahman Habib and stole Tk 200,000 from him at the Azimuddin Petrol Pump at Siddirganj at about on February 12, 2001. He died on February 24.
