A court in Tangail, Bangladesh, sentenced nine people to death and one man to life imprisonment after convicting them of murder. The condemned were Anwar Hossain, Nur Miah, Hafez, Soliman, Minhaz Ali, Chan Miah, Yakub Ali, Hossain Ali, Abu Taher and Jonab Ali. Abdul Halim, sentenced to life imprisonment, was also fined Tk 5,000. According to prosecution, the convicts attacked Haji Ziarath Ali and stabbed him to death when he was on way to a mosque on January 14, 2002.
