A court in Uzbekistan's Tashkent Region sentenced two members of a nine-strong gang to death and other members to long terms of imprisonment for drug trafficking, Uzbek newspaper Golos Uzbekistana reported.
The gang transported drugs from southern Uzbekistan to the Russian city of Smolensk, the newspaper said.
The criminal group, mainly made up of ethnic Armenians living in Tashkent, was headed by a 46-year-old man identified as Manvel Gevorkyan.
"Two members of the gang, M. Gevorkyan and V. Khachaturyan, have been sentenced to death, while others received long terms of imprisonment," the newspaper said.
