A District and Sessions court in Bagerhat, Bangladesh, sentenced to death nine people for the murder of Munirul Islam, 30, in 1995. The convicts reportedly killed Islam to rob him of 140,000 Takas (2,400 dollars) they knew he was carrying after they had offered him employment abroad. Four of the murderers were still on the run and therefore sentenced in abstentia.
