A female official, in Qingyuan City of south China's Guangdong Province, was sentenced to death on charges of embezzlement.
All of Bao Yufeng's personal property was confiscated by the Guanzhou Municipal Intermediate People's Court, reported Xinhua, China's main government-run news agency.
Bao, 51, was former director of the city's office for economic and technological cooperation and general manger of a local state-owned materials company. The court said that between April 1998 and Dec. 2002, Bao repeatedly abused her power to trade for bribes of cash or directly embezzled public funds with fraudulent finance tricks.
She was accused of grafting a total of $1.2 million and misappropriating $241,000, according to the court.
