A Jordanian woman and her Egyptian lover were both hanged at Sawaqah prison at dawn after being convicted of murdering the woman's husband.
Ibtisam Ahmad, 34, and Ibrahim Uthman, 30, were sentenced to death by the Criminal Court in March 2001 for murdering Muhammad Abdallah, an Egyptian national, in his home in Jabal Taj in May 2000.
Ahmad, had repeatedly asked Abdallah for a divorce after allegedly beginning an extramarital affair with Uthman, but was denied. On the night of the murder, she stabbed her spouse and suffocated him to death with the help of her lover.
Uthman then set the husband's body on fire.Both defendants, who were arrested two days after the incident, pleaded not guilty to the charge of premeditated murder.
A royal decree recently upheld the death sentences.
These executions bring to eight the total number of people put to death in the kingdom since the beginning of 2002. In 2001, nine executions were carried out in Jordan.
