A man who violently robbed a trader of a bottle of Pilsner beer worth Sh55 was sentenced to hang.
Kibera Principal Magistrate Catherine Mwangi found Peter Mugo Kamara, 27, guilty of robbing Fredrick Muturi Kisuva of a bottle of beer on May 7, 2000, at Nairobi's Kibera Silanga, while armed with a panga.
Kisuva was in his Masinga Bar with three of his employees when Kamara entered armed with a panga, went to the counter and threateningly demanded money. When no money was forthcoming, he cut the complainant on the head, snatched a Pilsner beer bottle and ran away.
Magistrate Mwangi also condemned three other people to hang for robbery with violence.
Paul Mbugua Kamau, John Kisoi Mutuku and John Ngugi Kamau were found guilty of robbing John Kimani Mwangi of Shl9,000 in cash and household goods valued at Sh34,000. They committed the offence on March l8, 2000, at Kuwinda village, Hardy estate, while armed with crude weapons.
Makadara Principal Magistrate Wilbroda Juma handed Boniface Kyalo Ndungi the death sentence after convicting him of violently robbing Charles Kimani of Sh100.
Ndungi, jointly with another person not in court, committed the offence on January 20 at Nairobi's Kayole estate while armed with a pistol.
