The only inmate who survived the King'ong'o Prison tragedy where six others were allegedly bludgeoned to death in September 2000, is now a free man.
A Nyeri court released Bernard Kimathi M'Mwirichia of charges of escaping from the prison on the fateful night.
M'Mwirichia, 26, escaped death at King'ong'o on the night of September 3 and 4, 2000, and avoided the hangman's noose this year after the High Court in Meru quashed the mandatory death sentence for violent robbery on appeal.
