A protest rally on an unprecedented scale has been going on since February 12 in Tsotsin-Yurt, a Chechen website reported . Several Ichkerian [Chechen] villages declared an action of civil disobedience to the occupying regime. These actions have been instigated by the new "clearance operation" carried out in Tsotsin-Yurt on 10-11 February, accompanied by mass robberies, violence and murders.
On 12 February, when the intensity of the occupiers' search subsided and the villagers were finding more and more bodies of their neighbours in the vicinity, the spontaneous protest action burst out. Local residents brought the bodies to the centre of the village, and desperate women and children began to drag the Russian soldiers from armoured personnel carriers.
Some 4,000-5,000 people were participating in the protest action, and its duration is open-ended. More people from the neighbouring villages are joining the residents of Tsotsin-Yurt. People are in the streets day and night, lighting fires to get warm and prevent the persecution of individual villagers. They demand that the "clearance operations" end and the occupying army withdraw from Chechnya.
