A special court in Barisal, Bangladesh, sentenced Kamal Sarder, 38, to death for murder. The court acquitted 18 other accused in the case for lack of evidence. According to the prosecution, lawyer Mahmud Hasan, Student Affairs Secretary of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party district unit and former Vice President of Barisal Law College was gunned down in front of his house on March 28, 2000.
