A Speedy Trial Court in Bangladesh sentenced to death in absentia Shafiqur Rahman Tuhin for poisoning to death his mother-in-law and five other members of the family on 25 June 2002

A Speedy Trial Court in Bangladesh sentenced to death in absentia Shafiqur Rahman Tuhin for poisoning to death his mother-in-law and five other members of the family on 25 June 2002. According to the case, failing to secure dowry, Tuhin took sweetmeat laced with poison to his in-laws house. On insistence his 50-year old mother-in-law, two brothers-in-law, two sisters-in-law and a baby took the poisonous sweetmeat and soon fell unconscious. Taking advantage of the situation Tuhin stole cash, gold ornaments and other valuables in the house and left the place before dawn.
