A speedy trial court in Dhaka, Bangladesh, sentenced six people to death and four to life imprisonment for the murder of police officer Konokuzzaman in the capital

A speedy trial court in Dhaka, Bangladesh, sentenced six people to death and four to life imprisonment for the murder of police officer Konokuzzaman in the capital.Those sentenced to death were M Maksudur Rahman, 30, Nazrul Islam, Rezaul Islam Iqbal, 28, Azizul Islam, 26, Sukkur Ali and Mazibor Rahman, 32.
They were also fined Tk 50,000 each in the verdict given by the speedy trial tribunal judge, Shahed Nooruddin.
Of the 10 people convicted Nazrul Islam, Ripon, Jewel and Masud were tried in absentia.
According to the prosecution, Konokuzzaman, 40, was shot to death by the men as he tried to resist them from snatching his briefcase on June 25, 2001.
