A Special Court in Dhaka, Bangladesh, convicted 11 people for murder, sentencing seven of them to death and giving life imprisonment to four others. Those sentenced to death were Abdul Kader, Masud Rana, Jahangir Hossain, Shafi, Jane Alam, Abdur Rashid and Bazlur Rahman. Of them, only the last two were present in court, the others were absconding and tried in absentia. According to the prosecution, the convicts attacked businessman Abdul Kader, 45, at his office in Motijheel, Dhaka, on October 17, 2001 and shot him to death.
