A Speedy Trial Tribunal in Chittagong, Bangladesh, sentenced five people to death and seven others to life imprisonment after convicting them of murdering Srikanta Rakkhit.
Court sources said Chhatra League leader Azimuddin, Jahangir Alam, Dipak Dutta Bhola, Mobarrak Hossain and Quamrul Hasan Titu were those sentenced to capital punishment.
According to the prosecution, Srikanta Rakkhit was abducted on April 19, 2003 while he was going to Agrabad in a rickshaw.
His beheaded body was recovered from a in Hathazari the following day while his head was recovered from a ditch in the Mirsarai district four days later.
