The Special Tribunal for Prevention of Women and Children Repression, Dhaka, Bangladesh, sentenced there people to death by hanging. M A Kader, relief secretary of a ward unit of City Awami League, Kader's brother-in-law Sheikh Shawkat Ahmed Ruhul, and Sheikh Kabir Ahmed were convicted of breaking into the 18-year-old's home, raping her and murdering her on 1 July 2000. Kader and Ruhul were present in the crowded court room during the pronouncement of the judgement while Sheikh Kabir Ahmed was sentenced in absentia.
