A Speedy Trial Tribunal in Dhaka, Bangladesh, convicted eight people, sentencing six of them to death and and two others to life imprisonment for killing th former chairman of Bakhil Union Parisad.
Those sentenced to death were Sirajul Islam, Shahidul Islam, Haider alias Alek Chan, Abdul Latif, Mukta and Biplab, the last four of which were absconding and sentenced in absentia.
According to prosecution, Salamatullah Moznu was shot and stabbed to death by the convicts near the Khordajogami Government Primary School on May 5, 2000 whilst returning home from a wedding ceremony at Khordajogami village.
