A teenager who was handed the death penalty on the charge of dealing in narcotics has realised what a difference a day makes.
He squeaked to safety when the Dubai Court of First Instance later found out that he was 17 years, 11 months, and 29 days old when he committed the crime. He will now be tried by the Juvenile Court.
He was caught red-handed by the Criminal Investigation Department of Dubai Police while he was trying to sell heroin. Since laboratory tests confirmed that he was not an addict, he was considered a trader in narcotics.
According to the court's sources, Article (48) of the Anti Narcotic Law states that a trafficker in narcotics will be given the death sentence if the person is above the age of 18.
