In an unprecedented ruling, the Dubai Cassation Court ruled that if a prisoner sentenced to death is sick, his condition will not delay or stop the execution. The Dubai Court of First Instance sentenced A.M.F., a Yemeni, to death for premeditated murder, and its verdict was upheld by the Appeal Court.
A jail officer reported to the Prosecution that A.M.F was suffering from hallucination and his mental condition was deteriorating as the execution date was drawing nearer.
The matter was later referred to the Cassation Court which studied A.M.F's medical reports, and concluded that he was not suffering from any mental disease.
The Cassation Court ruled only pregnancy is regarded as a cause for delay in execution.
A claim by a convict cannot be taken into consideration, and the execution must be carried out. A.M.F. was executed last month.
