a tribunal in Satkhira, Bangladesh, sentenced a man to death for killing his wife. The convict was identified as Rezaul Islam Gazi, 40, of village Bhomra in Sadar upazila. The Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal, however, acquitted Rezaul’s parents as their guilt was not proved. According to the prosecution, Rezaul beat his wife Bilkis Nahar to death on January 14, 2002 due to dowry demand. After examining the records and witnesses, Judge Motajidur Rahman found Rezaul guilty and handed down the judgment.
