A Ugandan High Court sitting in Mbale sentenced a man to death for murder.Clement Wandubire was found guilty of murdering two police officers, Sgt. Eruket, police constable Ojok and a civilian John William Musungu.
The murders took place on September 21, 1998 at Kimaluri village, Bulako parish in Bugobero sub-county. The Prosecution said Wandubire had committed other offences of malicious damage to property, trespass and threatening violence against Musungu prior to the murder, and had on several occasions evaded police arrest.
The prosecution said Wandubire killed the three people after police attempted to arrest him at his residence. He chopped off Sgt Eruket's arm and grabbed the gun which he used to shoot the dead.
"On consideration of the law and evidence I do find that prosecution has successfully proved its case on three counts beyond reasonable doubt. I find you guilty of the offences and convict you to suffer death in a manner authorised by law," Justice Deo Maniraguha ruled.
