A woman who amassed a fortune after bribing and corrupting officials with sexual favours lost her appeal against the death sentence

A woman who amassed a fortune after bribing and corrupting officials with sexual favours lost her appeal against the death sentence.
The Hunan Higher People's Court confirmed the punishment for Jiang Yanping, former vice-director of the Hunan Construction Engineering Company, the Beijing Daily reported.Jiang, 43, who started out as a security guard before bribing her way to the top ranks of a state-run company, was handed the death penalty by the Intermediate People's Court of Changsha, capital of the province, on July 24, 2001.
She was the highest ranking female official in Hunan and the most wealthy official to be sentenced to death. She had assets of more than 10 million yuan (HK$9.4 million), including holdings in US and Hong Kong currencies, flats worth 550,000 yuan and jewellery valued at 40,000 yuan.
Her assets have been confiscated.
Jiang became known as the "Iron Lady" due to her fiery temper, her rise from a humble background to a position of wealth and power and her refusal to co-operate with the authorities.
