About 1,900 inmates will be released from prisons in keeping with a law on amnesty signed by Belarussian President Alexander Lukashenko.Moreover, sentences were shortened by one year for 25,000 inmates, and slashed by one-third for 3,000 prisoners. The amnesty will save 1.6 billion rubles in state funds.The amnesty excludes felons convicted for aggravated crimes, repeat offenders, alcohol and drug addicts, inmates condemned to capital punishment and those serving a life sentence.
