According to the Committee in Defence of Iraqi Women's Rights, an Australian organisation, more than 200 women were executed in a three week period. The women were beheaded with swords in front of their families and their heads were nailed to the front doors of their houses, as a lesson to other women. Their alleged crime was prostitution. They were "dishonoring their country", and this could not be tolerated the Iraqi leader Saddam Hussein said on national television.
