ALGERIAN GETS DEATH SENTENCE FOR 1997 MASSACRE

an Algerian court passed the death sentence on a man involved in the brutal 1997 massacre of 12 teachers, a judicial source said. The court in the western town of Sidi Bel Abbes sentenced Djillali Bahri, better known as "Dib El Djiaane" (Hungry Jackal) over the September 1997 killings near the western town of Sfisef. A group of armed Islamists stopped a bus carrying the teachers, 11 young women and one man, and slit the throats of the women and shot dead their male colleague, sparking outrage across the nation.
