An editorial in the Daily Nation condemned extra-judicial killings by police. "Extra-judicial killings have not only become too common, pitifully few trigger-happy police officers have been arraigned in court for taking the law into their own hands. "Yesterday's execution (for that is what it was) of seven robbery suspects, in full public view, beat all other extra-judicial killings witnessed in recent times. Some of the victims were not even armed."In no way can we defend armed criminals. We, however, are under compulsion to defend the law of the land in its every form. Due legal process is one such form. To abandon it will be tantamount to toss out the rule of law, and replace it with the rule of the gun," the newspaper said.
