An Uzbek court sentenced a 30-year-old man to death for premeditated murder and theft in the capital, Tashkent.
Sergey Kostylev, who had three previous convictions, and a friend of his, Dmitriy Skrynnikov, gathered in the home of another friend, Sergey S., for an alcohol party on the occasion of the Easter holiday.
"An argument broke out between two drunken Sergeys which developed into a punch-up. Kostylev picked up a metal rod which happened to be lying nearby and clubbed the host, after which the victim collapsed onto the sofa. Kostylev went on and tied round Sergey's throat a wire from a lamp hanging beside the sofa and strangled him to death," the newspaper said.
The two guests also took advantage of the situation and stole a TV set and some silver items from the victim's flat, the report added.
