The trial of five people described as terrorists, presided over by Judge Rustamov of the Tashkent Regional court, ended on 24 November, the banned Uzbek opposition Birlik web site reported on November 29.
Farhod Qodirqulov, who was named as the head of the criminal group, was sentenced to death and four others to various terms of imprisonment ranging from 15 to 20 years.
According to the verdict, Farhod Qodirqulov, I. Khudoyberdiyev, A. Saidaliyev, A. Bekmirzayev and R. Hamidov received military training at a terrorist camp.
To achieve their criminal intentions the group members committed robbery in several houses. There were casualties during those acts of robbery. They also attacked policemen and caused injuries to several people. Police officer O. Muhamedov was brutally killed.
Neither representatives of human rights organizations nor journalists, nor relatives of the defendants were allowed into the courtroom during trial.
