Aralbek Sherbotayev, 24, was sentenced to death by firing squad in Shymkent. He had pleaded guilty to being the leader of a gang that had killed three taxi drivers and committed eight assaults. The three other members of the gang, two of which were minors, received between 8 and 12 years.
