Assured that accused murderer Paul Eduardovich Goldman would not face the death penalty in Bucks County, Pennsylvania, a French court agreed to extradite him to the United States. Goldman, 38, of Mount Laurel, Burlington County, fled to Europe nine days after his reputed lover, Fay Zonis, 42, of Northeast Philadelphia, was found stabbed to death December 29 in the Upper Southampton real estate office where she worked as a mortgage processor. French authorities captured Goldman in the Alpine city of Grenoble on Januay 20. Goldman denied killing Zonis and refused to be extradited voluntarily. At the extradition hearing, his lawyer Levi-Soussan had argued that there were not enough guarantees to keep Goldman from facing the death penalty if sent back to Bucks County. The French outlawed capital punishment in 1981 and have refused to extradite fugitives whose cases might warrant it.
