a special court in Narsingdi district in Bangladesh handed down death sentences to seven people for the murder of six people of a family. The convicts raped two young women of the family before killing them. Akhtaruzzaman Biru, Dhud Mian, Sharif Bhuiyan, Shahid Mian, Fazlul Haq, Swapan Mian and Jahangir were also fined 10,000 taka each. The convicts killed Yuona, 28, and Swarna, 26, after molesting them in their house on May 18, 2007. The also killed their father Raisuddin, mother Salma Begum, brother Rajib and adopted sister Urmi. Earlier on March 17, Judge A.K.M. Abul Kashem of another court convicted the seven and awarded them capital punishment for the murders. After examining records and statements of 27 witnesses, the judge of Women and Children Repression Prevention Court, Mian M. Sharif Hossain, handed down the second verdict in the case.
