Those condemned were Irdis Sheikh, 28, Shajahan alias Haider, 34, Farooq Hossin alias Lutfor Jamaddar, 34, Majnu, 32.
Judge M Kadir Newaz of Speedy Trial Tribunal sentenced another two accused -- Anis Sheikh, 42 and Kalu Sarder alias Abul Kalam, 34, to life imprisonment for their involvement in the case.
According to the prosecution, the convicts attacked the house of Niranjan Bhattacharya at Komorpur on the night of March 8 in order to commit robbery. During the heist, they raped the three female residents of the house, including a mother and her daughter, and chopped to death one of their husbands, Tapan Bhattacharya.
