it was reported that Rouf Mollah, a man sentenced to death for killing his wife, was to be executed at Jessore central jail, Bangladesh, at 1 minute past midnight. Jail sources said that a special tribunal had sentenced Rouf and two accomplices to death on September 6, 1998 for killing his pregnant wife Khodeja Begum, 22, on June 1996. The killing took place at Charchapa village in Mohammadpur, Magura district. Following an appeal to the High Court, the two accomplices were acquitted but Rouf had his death penalty upheld on June 23, 2000. A Mercy petition to the President had been rejected on December 11, 2005.
