SC judge M Muzammel Hossain fixed August 10 for the appeal hearing after the High Court declared the sentence unconstitutional as the law provided no alternative to the death penalty. Ali was sentenced on July 12, 2001, by a special tribunal of Women and Children Repression at Manikganj for murdering a female minor after raping her.
