BANGLADESH. THREE MEN SENTENCED TO DEATH IN DOUBLE MURDER CASE

Of the convicts, Barek Molla, Kamrul Islam and Swapan Talukder were condemned to death while Rafiq Khalifa and Kalam Khalifa were sentenced to life imprisonment.
According to the prosecution, the convicts attacked the house of Niranjan Mondal in Baligram village, Bakerganj, on July 19, 2001, stealing possessions from the property.
They also tied Niranjan and his sons Jhantu Mondal, Dulal Mondal and Mintu Mondal, his sister in-law Draupadi Mondal and Dulal's wife Malina Rani. They later wrapped them with bed-sheets and blankets, and  set them on fire.
Neighboures rescued the victims and sent them to Barisal Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital where Jhantu and Draupadi succumbed to their injuries on July 19 and 21 respectively.
