a former Bangladesh army officer arrested in the United States, was flown home to face the death penalty for his role in a 1975 military coup. But legal experts say they believe Mohiuddin Ahmed is unlikely to be executed soon, and that a further hearing of the case is still pending in the country's Supreme Court. It is nine years since the former army major was sentenced to death, in absentia, for his role in the death of the country's first president, Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. Ahmed is the fifth person to be arrested over the killing, another six army officers convicted for their role in the 1975 coup are still at large.
