Bennie Demps, 49, white, was executed by lethal injection in Florida State Prison, near Starke. He was pronounced dead at 18:07. He was convicted of killing Alfred Sturgis, a cell mate who used to soy on him, in September 1976. He was the third person to be executed in the State during the year, the 46th since the State resumed executions in 1983. He was the 43rd to be put to death in the U.S. during the year and No 641 since the death penalty was re-introduced in 1976.
